Never Give Up
Words to definitly live by, I swear by it.
My boxer unit and I arrived at CDC at about 1600-1700 the previous day to just relax knowing that we'd be squared away for the following day. Anticapation was high as to be expected, we laughed about various things to past the time untill we all crashed thinking of what would come the following day.
I think the Boxers were the first to rise the next morning, as we emerged from the camper it was still dark and noone was out. The dew was still very fresh and the birds were not even up yet. It seemed like forever and a day waiting for things to get rolling, I really felt like a kid on the first day of school waiting to see what people brought for lunch. 0800 rolls around and everyones hustling to get ready as boxer watches in comfort.
There was alot of networking and getting to know one another if you did'nt know the guy already, It just seemed like everyone was close, like a family. The processing went without a problem and before you knew it we were standing at attention. "42 SECOND TO NONE" was to be our motto when brought to attention and I then felt that proud feeling of being back in the 501 PIR "Geronimos", I was really back in my element and it felt good........".Squad leaders take charge of your units" and we was off. Paint was issued and things went smoothly. I then was assigned to shadow Team E.M.T (some awesome guys from florida who throughout the day really showed there talents and were great to work with) who would be leading the push into enemy territory. The Rogues, and there highspeed leader werewolf were of to our right providing flanking support through the woodline. Bishop from Team O.D.X recieved orders to move up 500m or so to see what could be seen, and he steathfully made his way up ambush alley like only the sneakiest of snipers could do and he did it well people. I was told to merge back with runaway bambam, moose, and we entered the woodline like a highly trained infantry unit....it was sweet. We headed straight for alpha, stopping a few times to let teams set up properly.
Upon our movement, firing began up ahead at alpha and we knew that it had to be Werewolf and his advancing team, immeadiatly moved up using military style tactics and started receiveing fire from uphead from some bunkers. We had a small team on our right along the thicker wooded area and we were along the woodlines edge on the right near the lawnmower and junkpiles. This was around 1030-1100 (or earlier who knows) Runaway starts barking commands,.."Move up" "get on them saws" at this time I'm receiveing help from Greenman from the right hammering away with his saw, raining down on the objective, the rifleman with there will aimed shots are doing what they could, and I quickly move into position on the left. I could not see anyone when I opened up with my saw showering the bunkers with hellfire red rounds, I knew they were there cause I could hear there shots echoing in the bunker, But that's what its all about not let them pop up for air, and it was working just as it should. While I hammered away Greenman moved up and got into a better position and when he did, began letting loose once again, we instinctivly moved while this was happening and upon my 3 to 5 sec rush found myself right on top of the bunkers about 25 yards away but could not get clear shots. I could only see the very tops of two enemys heads will I began to let betsy rip I yelled, "Move" signaling Greenman to advance, I think I got off about 50 rounds and then nothing but air, I yelled, "I'm Out" (not thinking cause I was aready in the prone, I should have yelled gun down) a couple of the guys thought that I was out, I quickly rephrased myself and began reloading, all the while Runaway's yelling "get on those saws" in almost desperation because of how close we were. I believe know that I think about it that Greenman most have had the same problem, (always check your ammo!!).
I got up first and continued pounding the target, they moved had moved back so it was going as expected, I scanned the area before moving and then I was up, upon crossing a road and moving to the first bunker I had crest a hill I suppose were green had been hideing and the firing started again. I got down immidieatly and realized I had no cover but for birm in front of me. I went to get while fire for cover and was struck in the thigh, I got down and called for a medic the proper way to do it. The medic hurryed to myside wiped out the casualty card and began to read, "you were struck by a round that went straight thru your shoulder, apply dressing and get back to FTOC for reinsertion", d**n it, not dead but still have to hump it back to the rear.
The rest of the day was murderess, with the rain off and on and the constant skirmishes all around it was hectic the entire day. We had taken Sim City and had Alpha the majority of the day. The greens took Alpha on one occasion, but was quickly taken back, and that was an outstanding battle. We realized at Alpha that we could not take Hamburger Hill without incuring heavy losses and or tank was highly out manuverable, and that was there key. During that battle after we'd reaquirer alpha for HH I was seperated from my squad and tryed to advance from the left up the hill flanking and trying to find a hole in there defenses. I was met with extreme prejudice while stepping into a clearing from high ontop of the hill from what looked like a couple of sprawled logs. Right in the mouth I found myself tasting the bitter paint and knew I was done for. i headed back to the FTOC, this was around 1445
During this time, Mamba head steped in from the battle, and as I had entered and the long walk back its raining cats and dogs, lightening the whole nine. Were in the cp and 1sgt and myself are talking and Ferg steps in "what do ya think, should we call this thing at 1530" 1sgt agrees do to the talk of fogging up and the lightening. Previous to that we'd been talking about the best way to Hamburger, that when Mamba actually came up with the idea to sweep around Sim and Apache toward Hamburger for the last push.
At this time its getting around crunch time and just about all had trickled back in from the fight at HH and Alpha. Myself and Mamba Immediatly started rallying the men for a last push and just about everyone was johnny on the spot with support. Amongest the talking and waiting I realized Dave and His parnter from Team Capitol Offense were ready to go. I had want to fire the 30 cal all day in battle and chose this time to utilize its awesome roar and suppression for max effictivness. The ready three lead the push, with the main task force right behind. we cleared Sim City without resistance, and quickly moved towards Apache, when we arrive Dave and his CO member I think it was Fonsey? were much lighter and I could see them entering the fort, they were about 100 feet ahead and I could see to my far right three greens advancing on to Apache realized theyed just see two tans enter the fort, they began to engage never seeing me. They were just about to cross a road in front of them so I moved up first and got to the clearing, Upon setting that beast on my hip one green spots and as he turned I open up, the first 10 shots were only air but the sound alone made all three turn and run the oppisite way. I manage to take out all three before the 30 goes down. At this time its about1515 and Runaway and a few others are making there way up the trail. to Apache, Run notices me trying to work the problem out with the 30cal and tell me not to worry about it and hands me his a-5 RT so that I can continue the assualt, "Thanks brother" and with the lessened carrying load I'm able to catch back up to Dave and Fonsey who have already cleared out HH, they tell me they will remain and hold. At this time I push toward Alpha down the hill and I'm met up with once again Greenman, He and I confront three greens and we battle with them untill only Greenman and I are standing. Those greenies were cool, coming up to us to let us know that was a cool little battle. We arrive at Alpha and I could see three guys in the forward most bunker faceing HH letting loose on us, I stratigicly place myself along the bunker flank side and hammer with the a-5 as I approach ( I guess the rain help me with my stealth as the occupants were clueless. I suppose bytime I'd made it that far two of the gunners had turned and retreated because when I came down on the gunmen, bunker tagging it, startlying the crap out of the poor guy, there were only one. At this time Greenman and I are about to try and regroup back with the MTF and as we approach HH someone says, "hey what about Rex" I look at Greenman and and were off, as were getting close to the clearing I can see the two greenies retreating and passing the down helecopter. I get a burst of energy and sprint to the front side of the copter emerging to see the two casualy walk to the exit point, I open up and they break into a starteled run.
Knowing the game was over the larger greenie grabs the smaller and holds his marker toward his head in a hostage style hold yelling, "don't make me do it, back up" and yelled,"It's not worth it, lower your weapon" He then simulated blowing the guys head off and the smaller guy falls flailing his body like a rag doll to the ground myself and I believe Greenman was still by myside immidiatly opened up on the guy while laughting hestrickly and took the guy down, it was so funny to see that big guy do the same type death his buddy did and our rounds never met there target. We all walked back as the horn sounded laughing and already reminising about what we saw only a few seconds ago.
To all teams, great time, and I have respect for all of you. Untill we met again Hooah!!!
