Wanted to start off my saying thanks for allowing me to join
this esteemed group. I live south of you, down here in Fort Myers, FL., so don't expect to see me at the field anytime soon.
My background, at least in terms of this sport goes back to late 1983, when they were still using Nelspot 007s and oil base pellets. Since then I've spent time serving as captain for a team which called itself Dorsai, which as some of you may recall is the name given by a writer named Gordon Dickson to a group of warriors he wrote about. More recently I've been focusing most of my attention of trying to talk DOD into using Paintball as a form of force on force training. I've also helped others to obtain a contract for a paintball operation at Fort Bragg, as well as opened the Guard's training site at Camp Blanding to civilians. I'm currently serving as a 1 star general on the staff for the Allied Command, which as some of you may know is involved with the Oklahoma D-Day event. Our 2,500+ member group is by far and away the world's largest team. It includes many sub units, ranging from the Free French to the Commonwealth's Airborne unit. While most who take part in that event see it as a week long event, some of us work at it year round and that's where I come in to it. My task is to help generate team spirit, as well as help manage the media side of things.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to drop me a note or give my office a call.
Sincerely,
Brigadier General Andy Van Der Plaats
Director Tactical Information and Strategic Services
Office of the CofS, SHAEF
